Through our Bilingual Community Navigation (BCN) service we provide Social Prescribing casework support for Service Users in Brighton & Hove which addresses social, emotional and practical needs. Here is a recent example of the type of 1-1 support we provide.
Service User R had received Social Prescribing support from SIS in the past and approached us for help with applying on Homemove, the council’s scheme for long-term council accommodation. R had started a Homemove application with her sister’s help, but she didn’t know what had happened to the application.
As well as having limited English, R has struggled with her Mental Health over a long period of time. She has regular therapy sessions for which SIS also provides interpreting.
Having met with R and agreed upon an action plan, our BCN helped with the following:
- Contacted the Move on Officer at the council and helped R to complete a Support Needs Self- Assessment form and finalise her Homemove application.
- Helped R to complete the application for Sheltered Housing as well.
- R’s Homemove application was subsequently approved. Met with R and explained to her how to access Homemove online, how to search for properties and how to bid for properties. Gave R a copy of the bidding cycle dates.
- Also helped R with her British Gas energy bill.
Having received this support, R said:
“My BCN helped me with the Homemove issue – she liaised with the advisor at the council and taught me how to fill in the Homemove form online. Many thanks for this help.”
