We have been slowly increasing the number of interpreting sessions we provide to Worthing Hospital. We have provided interpreters in 12 languages, compared to 2 languages in the same period last year.
At the moment most appointments are referred directly to us by patients.

When we receive self-referrals, we check appointment details before confirming an interpreter.
We use every opportunity in this process to promote the benefits of working with SIS interpreters; improved understanding, accurate diagnoses and treatment, efficiency, reassurance, better patient outcomes.

The patient was extremely happy to have an interpreter attending and the appointment was very successful.
The patient managed to explain all their needs to the Surgeon. They had an X-ray and a steroid injection to relieve the excruciating pain they had been experiencing. The latter was not originally planned for this appointment but was a direct response to the patient being able to speak fully and directly about their situation for the first time.
The interpreter was also able to support the patient to go along to the Physiotherapy Department immediately afterwards to book an appointment. They had been waiting for this appointment for 5 months. There was some confusion as the Physiotherapy Department were about to discharge the patient as they believed they had not attended a previous appointment. The patient knew nothing of that appointment and had not received a letter.
We continue to support the patient with interpreting.
