On Saturday, 19th July, tens of thousands gathered in Brighton to celebrate Trans Pride — a powerful, joyful affirmation of identity, resilience, and community. Despite torrential rain at the start of the day, the skies soon cleared and the sun shone, reflecting the spirit and energy of the event.
Sussex Interpreting Services (SIS) were proud to be one of this year’s sponsors. Guided by our core values of Inclusiveness, Rights, and Community, it was an easy and natural decision to support this important celebration.
Four SIS team members attended and had the pleasure of meeting Claire and Cass from the Trans Pride organising team. They shared their appreciation not only for our sponsorship, but for our presence on the day — a gesture of solidarity that was deeply felt. We were moved by the kindness, warmth, and gratitude expressed by members of the trans community. It was a humbling and inspiring experience to stand alongside them.
Former NHS Commissioner Martin Campbell commented “So lovely to see SIS sponsoring Trans Pride. In my years of working in partnership with SIS I recall one harrowing meeting where an Iranian, trans refugee spoke via a SIS interpreter about how ill-treated they had been, and they still felt little support in the UK. The intersectionality of marginalised communities is often overlooked. We all need to recognise parallels in dealing with hatred and rigid systems like councils, the police and NHS and work together to overcome them. Keep up the good work!”
