On Saturday 18th January, SIS joined together with musicians and community groups for an afternoon of international music at Brighton’s Jubilee Library.
Best Foot Music is a Brighton-based organisation, collaborating with musicians from around the world who have moved to the UK, creating space for those who may have been marginalised.
The annual Winter Warmer event was well attended – a large crowd gathered at the library on a very chilly afternoon to enjoy a warm welcome and fantastic music. A documentary about the Stone Flowers group of musicians was screened. The group are all survivors of torture and persecution in their country of origin and the film celebrates their musical journey from rehabilitation to studio album and nationwide performances.
Live musicians then captured the imaginations of those watching and the final performance, by the Klezmer Quartet, saw a group of people coming together to dance, hand in hand, in celebration of the community created by this collaborative, inclusive event.
SIS were proud to be part of the event, taking the opportunity to connect with other community organisations and to share with the public a little about our work providing language support at the heart of our community.
