Kidney Cancer UK is running Kidney Cancer Awareness Week from 3rd – 7th February 2025. To coincide with that, SIS was approached by the Public Health team at Brighton and Hove City Council to look at how to share information about the common signs and symptoms of kidney cancer with SIS Service Users who wouldn’t be able to access the English language health promotion materials.
The SIS Projects team provided advice and insight into which languages to include, what to translate, and how to share the translations directly with Service Users.
Translations were done in Arabic, Farsi, Traditional Chinese, and Russian and sent by SMS to around 400 SIS Service Users over the age of 60 who speak those languages and live in Brighton and Hove.
All these leaflets can be found, along with hundreds of other translated resources, on our website Service User pages.
Thanks to all the SIS team involved in supporting this campaign, in working on the materials and sharing it with a wide audience. It’s been great working with you and I hope that our collaboration will continue on future projects.
Roisin Thurstan, Senior Health Improvement Specialist, Brighton & Hove City Council
SIS can send first language SMS direct to Service Users in a relevant age demographic, along with links to read the translated leaflets hosted on the SIS website. SIS Service Users prefer to access health information in their own language, and being able to send translated resources directly to people is an important part of reducing health inequalities.
