Our Social Prescribing service has developed gradually over the last 10 years with the number of Service Users we have been able to support in Brighton & Hove growing each year. Within our Social Prescribing service we currently have two roles.
Our Volunteer Social Prescribers play an integral role in the running of our Social Prescribing service, triaging our Service Users’ needs, linking them to specialist health and social support services and helping with making appointments, reading letters and filling in forms.
Our Bilingual Community Navigators are trained to deliver regular, sustained case work for people with complex social, emotional or practical issues. They have experience and expertise in motivational interviewing, research, record keeping and collecting evidence in support of applications. They use a guided conversation to create an action plan with the service user.

We tend to do a round of recruitment for new volunteers once or twice a year – our last round of recruitment was towards the end of 2023 when we enrolled six new volunteers. We usually recruit in a particular language when either there has been an increased demand or one or more of our current pool of volunteers has left SIS. In the last round of recruitment, we recruited in Arabic, Cantonese, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.
Around the same time, we also recruited four new Bilingual Community Navigators in Arabic, Bengali, French, Italian, Polish and Spanish.
Each of these Volunteer Social Prescribers and Community Navigators has contributed to the success of our Social Prescribing service over the last six months so a very big thank you to all!

At the moment we are particularly looking for Arabic, Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, Sorani and Ukrainian speakers.
